Imperial Chemical Engineering Society

BP Trading Game

ChemEng Soc are delighted to announce that we’ll be hosting a Trading Game in association with BP at the end of the month. It’s an opportunity to explore your commercial options with a company such as BP, and a chance to meet with some of their representatives over a few nibbles to eat and drink after the game.

And just for a bit of spice, we’ll be competing against the Maths Department to find out who actually make better traders…

Format
There are only enough spaces for 6 teams of 5 from Chem Eng – these will be allocated on a first come first served basis. You’re encouraged to form a team of 5, and one representative should register your team by emailing ahmed.chowdhury@imperial.ac.uk with the names of all team members by the Friday 27th October. Teams should be composed of 4th year UGs and PGs only.

Date :
Monday 30th October

Time : 6pm onwards

Venue : Chem Eng Design Offices

Trading Game Info:

The aim of the game is to give participants a feeling of what trading is like; the game is fast-paced, requiring trades/decisions to be made every 5 minutes.

We will be trading commodities in the game, probably oil.  In each round, we will present data on the market, quote the commodity current price, and highlight news articles.  Each team is given a trading book, with strict instructions on how much they can trade and what the maximum position they can take (short/long).  At the end of the final round they have to close out their position.  Each team is also responsible for updating their own Profit and Loss and overall position – to be handed in at the end of the game.  We will be keeping a close track on how teams are doing (teams have to log trades with us at the end of each round) – and will feedback at the end of the game on the performance of the teams, with some key metrics that we would expect.
