On Friday 6th October the Chemical Engineering Society welcomed the Freshers to the department at the Buddies Lunch.
Organised by the Department Representatives Azuria Kamel and Nick Curum, the afternoon proved quite a feat with over a hundred individuals attending. With joint efforts made by 4th and 2nd year students catering was provided for as well as the introduction of the ‘Oil Rig Challenge’.
Buddies worked with groups of 1st Year students in a contest to build an oil platform with a rotating drill bit made from stationary and a coke can. With a quick briefing on the guidelines and with only 40 minutes build time it wasn’t long before students rushed to come up with a design and create a working model.
Fun was had by all and there were many creative models, some of which could have been displayed in the Tate Modern!
The winner was Group O led by Katrina Jacks and group members were presented with prizes from the Society by the Chairman Ahmed Chowdhury.
We would like to thank everyone who helped with preparations.
